Upcoming Presidential Election 2025
The Presidential Election will take place on Friday, 24 October 2025.
Polling Stations Open from 7am to 10pm.
The closing date to register to vote for the upcoming election is Tuesday, 7 October 2025.
The closing date to register for a postal or special vote for the upcoming election is Monday, 29 September 2025.
Check you are registered to vote
It is the responsibility of each individual to check to ensure they are Registered to vote and that their details are correct.

The easiest way to check and update your details is by logging on to CheckTheRegister.ie.

To vote in the upcoming General Election you must be:
- An Irish or British Citizen
- At least 18 years of age on polling day
- Ordinarily resident at the address in the constituency in which you wish to vote
- Your name must be on the Register of Electors
Postal Voters
You can register for a postal vote if you are:
- Unable to go to a polling station to vote due to physical illness or disability
- Working on the day of an election and cannot attend your local polling station e.g. full-time students studying away from home, polling staff or working away
- A member of the defence forces
- An Irish diplomat working abroad (and your partner / spouse with Irish citizenship)
- A member of An Garda Síochána
- Detained in Prison
- A person whose safety may be at risk if your details are published (this also applies to people who live with you) you can remain anonymous on the register
You will be required to produce documentary evidence to support your eligibility for a postal vote.
An elector registered as a postal voter may vote by post only and may not vote at a polling station.
Please note that if you are out of the country on holiday you are not eligible for a postal vote.
Special Voters List
Citizens residing in full time nursing homes, convalescence homes and religious institutions can register for a Special Vote.

Polling Station Changes
Voters are reminded that some polling station locations in the greater Longford Town area and Cullyfad have changed:
- Longford town and its environs were divided into four new Polling Districts: Longford Central North, Longford Central West, Longford Central East and Longford Central South
- The polling location for Corboy electors was changed from St Joseph’s National School to Cullyfad Community Centre
Please check your polling information card to make sure you are going to the correct location to cast your vote in the General Election on Friday, 24 October.

It is important to note that the Teagasc Office in Longford Town is no longer in use as a polling station. As above, details of your new polling station location are included on your polling information card.
The townlands that historically voted at Teagasc Offices have been moved to St John’s National School and St Michael’s National School (see below).
